White Bean Spread or simply Romanian Hummus

Posted in Salads

It’s not the actual name for this Bean Spread dish but we call it Romanian Hummus. Hummus because it’s a spread and when you look at it you’ll notice that it is similar to hummus and Romanian because it is actually a Romanian dish and also it is packed with garlic. Just the way I like it.

It is easy to make and can be stored in a container in the fridge for up o 5 days, I wouldn’t risk it for longer than that with beans. If you like the taste of garlic this is the dish for you. Some Romanian Hummus on a piece of fresh bread and it’s heaven in your mouth.

White Bean Spread or simply Romanian Hummus
Recipe type: Appetizer, Spread
It's not really Hummus per say but it is definitely a worthy competitor. If you like garlic then this is for you.
  • 1 Can White Kidney Bean
  • 4 Garlic Cloves
  • 2 Onions – Chopped
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 3 tbsp Vegetable Oil
  • Salt & Pepper
  1. Although the canned beans are cooked, cook it for about 20 minutes in water with a few carrots and some salt and pepper. It will give it that extra taste. If you have chicken soup powder, add it as well.
  2. Drain the beans once done cooking and save some of the liquids aside (about 2-3 tbsp)
  3. Place the beans, garlic, olive oil, cooked beans liquid, salt and pepper in a chopper or food processor and let chop until the mixture is smooth.
  4. Sauté chopped onions with vegetable oil over medium heat until golden brown.
  5. Place the bean mix in a container and cover with a thick layer of onion and serve.
